At Home With... Sophie Robinson
Mylands catches up with interior designer Sophie Robinson.
1. Home is ...

2. What colour personality are you?
I must be a very split personality as I love all the colours! But in terms of the Colour Psychology framework I use to help people discover ther own authentic colour palette, I am is Autumn with a touch of Winter for added drama.
3. Where has your love of colour come from?
Whether it is a skirt or a wild cushion you seem to truly love colour…. At the age of seven my Mum let me design the scheme for my bedroom, and I did a multi-coloured rainbow theme. My taste hasn’t changed since! Colour is so evocative and once you discover the colours you love- that make your heart quicken, you start to find inspiration everywhere. My latest colour crush is a neon red manicure I had done at the weekend. It’s bringing me so much joy!
4. What led you into the interior design world… from rally car driving!
My rallying was very much a hobby- although a serious one. I was working on an interiors magazine in London, office full of women, and then heading off to the forests at the weekend so go racing cars through the mud. Interior design has always been my primary passion but I like to keep life rounded. Although my days of fast cars are well and truly behind me now!
5. How have you made your house your home?
My house is mid renovation at the moment so I’m struggling with the homely vibe right now! However I have lots of things in storage waiting to be unpacked. They’ll be like old friends. I love to collect art, rugs and have a few pieces of family furniture, which give a sense of history and past which is important to me when creating a home.

6. What is your favourite possession in your house and why?
I love an antique bench that my husband bought for £50 from our local car boot sale. I had it covered by an amazing upholsterer in a patchwork of bright and slightly kitsch needle-points and the result is stunning. My husband and I will never fall out of love with it.

7. If you could live in any building in the world, what would it be?
I’d be in some bright pink Rajasthani palace in India I’d imagine with crazy colourful textiles and artefacts all around me.
8. What is your favourite season? Does this alter your views on how to design a space?
My favourite season is Spring and Autumn. They are both high energy seasons which I think is reflected in my love of busy almost cluttered maximalist interiors. I love to see plenty of prints, warm hues, and busyness in my schemes and this is reflected in the two seasons I love the most.
9. ‘Reveal your true colours’…can you share with us any exciting upcoming projects you have in the pipeline?
Yes! There is going to be a new interiors programme launching on BBC2. Its currently in production and I’m thrilled to be returning as a guest judge. The rest is under wraps I’m afraid!
